‘May the collection remain alive and
present in the region’
This was Gréitchen Molitor-Schonckert’s wish before bequeathing her stepfather’s entire photographic legacy to the Slate Museum.
The collection as a whole comprises 1,900 photographs developed from glass negatives and 1,750 paper prints from Nic Molitor's camera. It was discovered by Romain Gaspar among the descendants of the photographer, who died in 1952, specifically his stepdaughter, Gréitchen Molitor-Schonckert. The entire collection of glass plates was subsequently cleaned, catalogued and digitised by the National Audiovisual Centre (CNA) in Dudelange. While the glass plates and paper prints, which are too fragile and sensitive to be handled, are kept in special permanent storage at the CNA, their digitised counterparts are available for consultation by appointment, which can be made by email at info@ardoise.lu.
