IN THE SLATE MUSEUM

HAUT-MARTELANGE,

LUXEMBOURG

SCHOOL GROUPS

A DAY AT THE SLATE MUSEUM

Groups of children and schoolchildren between the ages of 8 and 18 can experience an exciting day (3 to 6 hours) against the backdrop of the Haut-Martelange slate museum. You go search for the slate stone and learn how it was formed in the ground, how it was mined and what it was made into.

The slate industry and its unique site, which is still a witness from the age of the Industrial Revolution, can be discovered through various themes:

  • Slate and its properties

  • Geology of the Luxembourg Land

  • Read plans and designate buildings

  • the slate miner and his craft

  • the carbide lamp

  • the steam engine

  • the transport of the slate

  • the typewriter

Depending on the age and destination of the excursion, the content is conveyed differently. The daily program can be put together individually and the following activities can also be booked, for example: demonstration of the craft of the slate miner, scavenger hunt, visit to an old mine from the 19th century, compilation of a dossier, ride on the mine train through the museum area, working in the Stone, making your own slab of slate and other workshops on the subject of slate and slate quarries.

The museum is open to schoolgroups all year round.

Entrance fees: from €8/€15 per child - Exact cost estimate on request
