About the event
The history of the slate industry in Haut-Martelange through the site's architectural heritage
The National Institute for Architectural Heritage (INPA) offers an architectural tour of the former Haut-Martelange industrial site, focusing on the history of the various buildings on the site.
Slate mining in the Martelange region began at the end of the 18th century and profoundly transformed this area, located near the Belgian border. With the arrival of the Rother family in the late 19th century, mining experienced considerable growth, becoming the second most important industry in the country. This required significant development of the site's infrastructure.
During this guided tour, you will discover the architectural history of the former slate industry in Haut-Martelange, while gaining an insight into the work of the INPA and future projects planned for the Slate Museum site.
